Line 2 of 4 · Bioconstruction

Bioconstruction.

Hempwood, hempcrete and more. Bio-based materials made from industrial hemp: insulating walls of hemp and lime, masonry-format blocks, dense hemp boards and fibre insulation. They store carbon, manage moisture and resist mould and pests.

What we source in this line.

Typical options across our partner network — confirmed per RFQ. Ranges are typical, not limits; send your spec.

Hempcrete

The woody core of the hemp stalk (hurd, or shiv) mixed with a lime-based binder. Cast or sprayed around a structural frame, or supplied precast, it forms an insulating, vapour-open wall that is finished with lime plaster or render.

Typical options across our partner network — confirmed per RFQ.
CompositionHemp hurd bound with a lime-based binder
FormatsCast-in-place mix, spray-applied mix, precast panels
RoleNon-load-bearing insulating infill around a structural frame
FinishesLime plaster or lime render, vapour-open
SupplyBinder and hurd by the pallet, or precast units per project

Hemp-lime blocks

Hempcrete pressed and cured into masonry-format blocks. They are laid with a lime mortar or adhesive, install without formwork or drying time on site, and give a consistent density course after course.

Block facesTypically 12 × 24 in; other modules per factory
Thickness4 in to 12 in, project-dependent
LayingLime mortar or thin-bed adhesive; non-load-bearing infill
FinishLime plaster, render or clay plaster

Hempwood

Hemp fibre compressed with a bio-based binder into a dense, hardwood-like board. It machines like wood and goes into flooring, millwork, furniture parts and trim.

MaterialCompressed hemp fibre with a bio-based binder
FormatsFlooring planks, boards, dimension blanks, millwork stock
FinishUnfinished or factory-finished
UsesFloors, stair parts, trim, furniture and casework components

Hemp fibre insulation

Hemp fibre made into flexible batts and rolls for walls, roofs and floors, and as acoustic infill in partitions. It friction-fits between framing like other batts and handles moisture well.

Why build with hemp

Carbon, breath, fire and pests.

  • The carbon story

Hemp takes up carbon dioxide as it grows, in a single season. Lime binders reabsorb some CO₂ as they cure. The result is a wall that stores carbon for the life of the building.

  • Breathable walls

Hemp-lime is vapour-open and hygroscopic: it buffers indoor humidity and lets moisture move out of the wall instead of trapping it.

  • Fire resistance

Lime-bound hemp resists fire well. Ratings depend on the tested assembly, so we source to the assembly your design team and code official accept.

  • Mould and pests

Lime's alkalinity discourages mould, and hemp hurd offers nothing for rodents or insects to eat.

Ship it together.

Hemp-lime construction appears as an appendix in recent editions of the International Residential Code. Adoption varies by jurisdiction, so check with your building department early; we supply the product data your designer needs.

Wherever this line can be made in Mexico or Latin America, that's where we start: days by truck, USMCA for qualifying goods, factories in your time zone, and White Lion handling the border. Where Asia is the better source, we say so.

Send the BOM. We’ll find the factory.

Drawings, a takeoff, a spec sheet or a rough list of quantities — any of it is enough to start. We sign an NDA before detailed project discussion and reply with questions, sourcing options and a delivery plan.
