Qualifying an injection molding manufacturer in Mexico therefore requires matching the part to a demonstrated process—not simply locating a company with molding machines.
Prepare a moldable technical package
Provide controlled 3D and 2D files, resin specification, color and additive requirements, cosmetic zones, critical dimensions, tolerances, texture, insert requirements, packaging, annual volume, and expected product life. Identify regulatory or customer-specific material requirements and define the testing needed to confirm them.
Match the part to the press and process
Review machine tonnage, shot size, tie-bar spacing, controller capability, robotics, drying, material handling, hot-runner support, insert loading, and secondary operations. Ask for evidence of similar resins, wall sections, part weights, cosmetics, and tolerances. A machine list is only useful when connected to the proposed part and available capacity.
Separate tooling from production economics
Clarify who designs, builds, owns, maintains, insures, and can remove the mold. Review steel, cavity count, expected life, spare components, hot-runner brand, sensors, and acceptance criteria. Compare a lower-cost tool against cycle time, maintenance, yield, and production-life needs. Tooling payment should follow documented milestones and approvals.

Calculate required machine hours at expected cycle, cavities, yield, and demand. Review competing load, maintenance, labor, and backup press options. Map resin lead time, minimum orders, color compounds, imported additives, and alternate grades. Document who approves substitutions.
Compare total delivered cost
Add resin escalation rules, tooling, samples, fixtures, packaging, inland freight, cross-border cost, inspection, inventory, and scrap exposure. Confirm whether quoted pricing assumes customer-supplied resin, amortized tooling, a particular forecast, or a minimum annual commitment.
A qualified Mexican injection molder should be able to explain how the proposed part will be tooled, processed, measured, maintained, packed, and recovered when something changes. That evidence matters more than a broad capability statement.
